do•doc (pronounced “doo-doc”) is a free and open-source tool for documenting projects, driven by a community of designers, teachers, artists, trainers, makers and documentation enthusiasts.

Used in classrooms, fablabs, community spaces or as the engine of online platforms, it lets you capture, edit, lay out and publish media. Its design and development have been carried out by the collective l’Atelier des chercheurs since 2014; anyone can follow or take part in this work on the forum.

Alone or together, at the same time or not, capture media (sound, still images, video), import them or create them (text, drawings) from one or more devices (computer, tablet, smartphone).

Filter them by author or keyword, view them, delete them, collaborate through a built-in discussion thread, then assemble, mix and combine them before publishing them online, downloading them or sharing them directly in do•doc.

Capture

A media creation tool lets you record media (image, video, animation, sound or SVG).

Collect

A tool for organizing created or imported content lets you gather media to build a publication.

Publish

An editorial tool lets you lay out your content in different forms: page by page, story, map or multi-format edition, with PDF export.

Free software and interoperability

do•doc is free and open source, released under the GNU AGPL license. The code and issues are available on our GitHub repository — feel free to contribute. We rely on standards for both development and file formats, so all content can be read and edited in other software.

do•doc locally or do•doc online

do•doc exists as a local application: it is installed on a computer that then acts as a server. When other devices (phones, tablets, computers) are on the same Wi‑Fi network as this server computer, they can all connect to the interface and work on the content together, at the same time.

To be shared or reused, this content can then be downloaded and/or published online.

do•doc also exists as an online version. We can help you set up your own instance — please contact us by email.
