Frequently asked questions

Can I get back the content I captured or imported into do•doc?

Yes, in two ways:

  • Local application — all content is stored in a folder created the first time you open the software (by default in My Documents/dodoc). You can access it directly, organized into folders, subfolders and files.

  • Online version — at any time, you can download a media item, a project or an entire space you contribute to. You get a ZIP file that can be imported as is into another do•doc (online or offline), or unzipped to access the files it contains.

Will do•doc remain free and available in the long run?

do•doc is free and open-source software: its source code is open and can be modified by anyone who wishes to. We will not make it a paid product. If the direction of the project does not suit you, you remain free to create your own version of it, or to keep using the one you already have without updating it.

Older versions, going back to version 7 from 2018, are still available here.

Can several people work in do•doc at the same time?

Yes. In the local version, do•doc is installed on a computer that acts as a server: other devices (smartphone, tablet, computer) connected to the same Wi‑Fi network can open the interface and contribute to the same project simultaneously.

In the online version, collaboration happens through a shared space on the web. In both cases, you can filter content by author, talk through the built-in discussion thread, then publish or export the result.

Where is my data stored? Locally or on a remote server?

It depends on the version you use. With the local application, your content stays on your machine (by default in My Documents/dodoc): nothing is sent to a remote server unless you choose to publish or export it online.

With the online version, media are hosted on the server of the instance you use; you can download your projects as ZIP files at any time to keep them or import them elsewhere.

Do I need an internet connection to use do•doc?

Not for the local version. Once installed, the application works offline: capturing, editing and layout all work without a connection. The Wi‑Fi network is only used to connect other devices to the same server computer, or to publish / export your content online when you want to.

→ Install do•doc locally

The online version, on the other hand, requires a connection to access the instance.

How can I get help or report a problem?

The do•doc community is active on the Atelier des chercheurs forum (mostly in French): questions about use, installation, setting up an online instance, feedback from experience.

For a bug or a feature suggestion, you can open an issue on GitHub.

The tutorials on this site cover the basics; for more specific cases, the forum remains the best place to start.
